Background information

Teddy Bagaka Oburu aka “Sokoro” was born at 4.00PM on the 28th of March, 1998 to Caleb Oburu Orenge and Stellah Kwamboka Obwogi. He was a brother to Phanice Kemunto and Eugene Manuguti Walela

Teddy was dedicated in Riruta Satellite SDA church on 29th May, 1999. He started his schooling in Kenvic School Ngong, right from Pre-unit in 2004 to 2011 when he finished his standard eight. Teddy was generally a bright child and indeed he passed very well in his standard eight KNEC exams and was selected to join Kapenguria High School. Due to the strong attachment he had with his parents who wanted him close to them, Kapenguria was considered too far and instead, he was taken to Karura School where he had his secondary education (2012-2015). In the 2015 KCSE Exam, Teddy passed with an A grade securing him a space in the Technical University of Kenya, TUK, to undertake B.Com degree. Again because of the strong attachment of wanting to be close to him always, and after consultations it was agreed that he takes Economics & Statistics in Egerton University. He joined Nakuru Town campus of Egerton University in May 2016. At the end of his first academic year, and as expected of him, he had accumulative weighted average of 71%.  Indeed, by May 2019 he had finished with honors degree and graduated on the 29th November, 2019.

Due to his excellent computer and analytical skills, Teddy was able to undertake a number of data analysis assignments including international ones which paid him well (the lap top he left me with was bought out of such proceeds). As he was waiting to graduate, he registered and passed the first sections of CIFA professional exams. He was to take more sections of the exam in November 2020 but he didn’t because he was unwell but hoped to do them in March. However, God had better plans for him. Equally he had registered for an M.Sc course in Data Analytics in KCA University but didn’t proceed due to his ill health. He finally died on the 25th February 2021 while in hospital.

Teddy was an extra ordinary person with a very promising future. During his 22 years and 334 days he lived on this earth he accomplished so much, more than what many of us achieved at that age. It is upon this background that the idea of the Ted Bagaka Oburu foundation was mooted and finally formed to carry out activities in a bid to foster Ted’s legacy. The foundation is managed by a board of trustees and endeavors to carry out a number of activities that are believed to be Ted’s unaccomplished vision.
